Mum Corrine Wilkinson raced to the scene in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, desperate to hear news her daughter Sian was safe after the Stagecoach double decker bus carrying 60 children swerved off the road
A mum has described how “panic just completely set in” when she discovered her daughter had been involved in a school bus crash.
Emergency services raced to Meadow Lane, in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, this morning at around 8:30 when a Stagecoach double decker bus carrying 60 children swerved off the road.
One child suffered a broken arm and has been taken to hospital, Lincolnshire Police said.
Mum Corrine Wilkinson raced to the scene in North Hykeham desperate to hear news her daughter Sian was safe.
Ms Wilkinson said she did her best not to panic but she wanted to get to the scene as quickly as she could.
The 47-year-old said: “Panic just completely set in and you are trying not to panic because you know it will not help anything but you kind of want to get there as fast as you can.
“The police blocked the road off so a lot of us could not get through which I fully understand because the last thing they need is all the parents turning up.
“It was a relief when I managed to get here and see that she was alright. You do get told that they are okay but until you actually see for yourself it is just human nature as a parent – you are bound to worry.”
Ms Wilkinson said her daughter Sian Taylor does not take her phone to school but she managed to contact her through a friend and was reassured that she was OK.
She said: “Our plan is to go home now, cuddle up, watch films together and just appreciate each other.”
Sian, 12, said the crash was a “really weird experience” and that everyone on board was very lucky not to have been seriously injured.
She said: “Some people got their arms stuck but we are really lucky that nothing major happened to us.
“I was literally just talking to somebody about school and I suddenly heard this creak and I don’t think you have enough time to react properly.
“You knew something was about to happen and then the next minute the bus is tipped over, everybody has fallen and the glass has all shattered.”
“We were called to reports of an overturned Stagecoach school bus on Meadow Lane, North Hykeham at 8:29am today (11th November).
“Meadow Lane and Brant Road were closed as a result to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
“A 12-year-old boy sustained a broken arm during the incident and a 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

“We are giving the police our full support in helping to investigate and establish the circumstances of the incident.”
